Introduction Back to Contents

Origo has developed a unique capability designed to assist organizations doing business in virtually any market sector in their research, review and development of cross-sector partnerships.

Historically, the process of researching background information, identifying prospects and then connecting with potential business partners has been a time-consuming and sometimes frustrating process. While data often exists about a given market or the organizations doing businesses within it, the information is often fragmented, and typically there has been no easy way to aggregate and organize it to make the process of partnership development seamless and efficient.

Origo Market Maps help to bridge that gap.

What is a market map? Back to Contents

A market map is a unique, visual, multi-dimensional tool that enables users to view and understand large amounts of data easily. A map can be based on a geographic picture, or it can be a representation of data that is described by various visual dimensions such as size, value and hierarchy. The interactive format of our maps enable users to quickly and easily get a ‘picture’ of a market’s makeup, then allows them to ‘drill-down’ into the data to get detailed information.

The map will typically contain information falling into three broad categories:

  • Descriptions of specific organizations and their sector-focused projects that exist in given country or region
  • Selected background information that might include news clippings, research, and cases, etc
  • Sector-specific information on the nature of markets and opportunities

The emphasis is generally placed on the first – specific organizations and projects – but it is important to have the other areas covered to provide the appropriate context. The information can be segmented by geography, first at the country level and then, as appropriate and feasible, at more local levels.

Why is a partnership mapping tool important? Back to Contents

In today’s global business climate, many organizations that are succeeding in emerging markets are doing so in part through a variety of ‘novel partnerships.’ These partnerships usually call for companies to find new ways to work together across a system of public and private sector organizations and businesses, community groups, local entrepreneurs and SMEs, and local governments to effectively deliver their business products or services.

Here’s the problem: The business of finding new partners is sometimes one of chaotic chance—many multinational organizations, either donors, governmental or companies often have little or no way of knowing exactly who is doing what and where within their own organizations, let alone others. Because the business and organizational landscape is so fractured and diverse, it often presents potential clients and those in the field real challenges in understanding and navigating who is doing what, where and why.

Accordingly, there is a need for a practical tool to help guide individuals and organizations through the task of identifying the development resources and potential alliances necessary for critical partnership formation.

Origo Market Maps take the first step in providing an enticing and intuitive resource to allow people to get a sense of who is out there, to see how their interests might align and to provide info for making contact.

Who are the ideal users of Market Maps? Back to Contents

This project is designed to provide a support resource/tool to those looking to work more effectively in their development markets:

International: as a reference tool for international organizations, businesses, development agencies and non-profits as they make strategic decisions about where to focus new business development energies.

National: company heads, national NGOs and public sector organizations looking to become involved in new opportunities within their own countries.

Local: SMEs, NGOs and government partners (sub-national) looking to find potential links and partnerships outside of their own networks.
